Book Review

This book was good.  It's based on a true story of a man who is ship- wrecked and stranded on an island in the Caribbean for over 25 years.  He comes to find God and sees His hand in his life.  There were some boring parts that dragged on for me but over all an inspiring story.
We read this for the youth book club my girls are in.  There were a few adult moments so I just read the book and told my girls the edited version.  Although, after reading it, I feel it probably would have been fine for them.  It is an apocalyptic story about the Untied States being hit with several nuclear bombs during the cold war with the Russians.  A small community in Florida has to learn how to become self-reliant.  It was food for thought for sure.  It made me think of a lot of things I need to do to be better prepared for a disaster. This was quite timely with all that has happened in Japan too.

I read this book for book club this month.  It was a quick fun read.  It is a true story of a woman in the fifties who had 10 kids and was married to a bum who drank most of the family income away.  She saved the family by winning several advertising contests.  She had a knack for words and used her passion and sense of humor to write little jingles that the judges seem to love. An inspiring story.

This is the book we are reading for next month book club.  It is by the man who produced Food Inc.  It is a great book about how the Western diet now consists of mostly fake foods, chemicals, artificial colors and flavors.  He writes about how we need to get back to eating real food. It contains info about how the government and big food companies have changed how we eat and how it is destroying our health.  Overall, a great book that definitely makes you think twice when you are choosing what to make for dinner.
