Verona & Venice

We spent the first of day of Italy in Verona, home of Romeo and Juliet. Well sort of- they are fictional characters, but if they were real they'd be from here. This is Juliet's balcony as seen in the movie "Letters to Juliet"  This little square was so crowded.  There is a bronze statue of Juliet and it is supposedly good luck to rub her breasts.  Poor lady, her breasts were getting worn right off!

Venice is to die for.  It is so picturesque. I loved all the old buildings and unique architecture.  Venice was a type of Vegas where the rich and famous would come to party.  The masquerade balls were perfect because they could disguise themselves. They still have Carnival every year.

We took a gondola ride, enjoyed the views, and did a little shopping.  One thing that kind of bugged was in both Verona and Venice many of the streets were lined with shops.  American shops!  It was like walking through the Gateway.  Footlocker over here, the Disney Store over there.  I didn't travel half-way around the world to shop at an American mall!
