Before & After #3 The Kitchen

The kitchen was quite different before we started. We removed a few walls and filled in a doorway that went to a formal dining room. I think the original kitchen was one main reason many people before us chose not to buy this house. It was small and awkward.

This before picture is the same angle as the after photo with the wall removed.

The before photo here shows the other side of wall as in the above before pic. This wall was removed to open up the kitchen. All of the dark brown cabinets are the originals refinished with a cherry gel stain and black glaze. The black & cream cabinets are new, but I custom painted them. It was more work then I thought it would be.

These were both taken at the same angle. You can see the doorway that we filled in. We use the formal dining as an office now, so we did not need an entrance here.

We added the lights above the island & also changed the flooring to a hand-scrapped natural walnut and a tile in the kitchen area.
I still want to change out the doors that are on the black cabinets to ones with leaded glass or maybe some kind of wire mesh.
