Before & After

One of my friends asked me to post some pictures of my house. So I thought each week I would post a few before and afters.
I love doing projects, and this house was a fun one.

Here is the front door. I love that it is a double door and the arch top. The previous owner painted it a hunter green with a crackle finish.
I love crackle finishes, but this one looked terrible because it just wasn't done that well.
I also didn't like the clear glass windows. I felt like we were in a fish bowl.

So here's the after photo. We stripped all the paint (not such a fun project) and gave the doors a walnut finish with a black glaze.
We also changed out the hardware and added a film to the windows to provide privacy without blocking the light.

This next project was the living room fireplace mantel. I loved the detail of the carved wood, but the flower basket was just too fancy for my taste. Also the green tile was a little dated.

I chipped off the flower basket. Sanded down the whole thing, stained it with a dark walnut finish and added a dark glaze. Then we changed out the tile with a rustic slate.
It now feels aged & warm. I love how it turned out.
