I just finished reading this book.
It was inspiring.
It is a true story about a woman from Holland who helps hide Jews during WWII.
She ends up getting caught and sent to a concentration camp.
Her sister is sent there with her.
Together they offer hope and encouragement to others through little secret Bible study groups.
It was amazing to see God's hand throughout her life and
how He used her and her family to fulfill His divine purposes.
Her mother taught her,
"Happiness isn't something that depends on our surroundings...
it's something we make inside ourselves."
Her father was also an incredible man full of faith, humility, & wisdom.
She says in the book,
"Childhood memories are the key not to the past, but to the future."
I believe because of her parents righteous example of serving others,
diligently studying the scriptures as a family,
and praying often, she held the keys to be able to have the
faith and determination to withstand such horrible circumstances.
We know the road ahead is going to be a difficult one.
This book has given me a renewed desire to make sure my children
are well prepared for whatever the future holds.

I loved this book!!! When I gave a talk in Sacrament a couple months ago on forgiveness, I used her as an example. It was when after many years later she was going all over and speaking to people about the Atonement and being forgiven of our sins, that one of the soldiers at the concentration camps who was very cruel was in the congregation that day. He didn't recognize her but she remembered him very well. He came up to her after the meeting and asked her very sincerely if it was true that Jesus would forgive him of his sins if he truly repented. At that moment, she knew that if God the Father and His Son could forgive him, then she could too. Instantly, she felt peace and love for this man.
She is an inspiration! Such a great story and example.
It has been great to pick up this book again.
I am reading it from a different perspective this time, underlining and highlighting as I go.
Trying to get it finished before Wednesday.
